MANSFIELD’S PENDING WATER EMERGENCY

Mansfield has been facing a pending water emergency for many years and up to now we have been very lucky. But luck is not a plan.

The Water Main Initiative is organized by citizens – our neighbors – to take action.

Once you understand the situation we’re in, there is really no question about our need to act now.

The Mansfield Water Main Initiative is a

Four-Year 0.25% income tax

to generate $18 million

for replacing water mains.

Our health and our safety are being compromised by the ravages of time.

We have abundant clean water available to us, but it is carried to our homes through water lines that are old, often too small, and corroded enough to fail.

There are 321 miles of water mains in the city, and 60 miles of them are crumbling to the point that 385 hydrants are useless or crippled.

This not only threatens our drinking water, it leaves our Fire Department rolling the dice every time they race down the street hoping to find a hydrant that works. Thousands of Mansfielders share this gamble with their homes, their belongings, and their lives.

What the fire chief says:

“We have a lot of fire hydrants that won’t supply needed water for firefighting purposes and this is a big problem all over the city”
